When manufactured, double-glazed units have a sealant applied to protect and seal the double glazing from ingress of water or moisture. Sealants have a moisture vapour transmission rate, which is the standard indicator of how easily moisture can permeate it. Condensation
Depending on the amount of moisture contained in room air, condensation will occur when the temperature drops, especially at night. After a significant drop in temperature, air reaches its dew point and cannot hold the moisture. The air deposits the moisture onto the coldest object in the room, usually the window glass.
